Diakon Hillside Village

Diakon today announced that it has become the new owner of Hillside Village Apartments in Catawissa, Pennsylvania, expanding its commitment to affordable housing to Columbia County.

“This reflects our long-term commitment to providing stable, affordable homes connected to care and community,” said Shari VanderGast, Diakon’s President and CEO. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Hillside Village and to be part of the Catawissa community.”

Hillside Village is an established residential community serving nearly 140 local individuals, including families. Under Diakon’s ownership, the property will continue to operate as affordable housing, with a focus on stability, responsiveness, and resident well-being.

With the addition of Hillside Village, Diakon now owns and operates five affordable housing communities—one in Maryland and four in Pennsylvania. While its existing communities primarily serve seniors and veterans, Hillside Village is the organization's first to serve families with children, expanding its housing services to meet a broader range of community needs. No immediate changes are planned as Diakon begins this new chapter with Hillside Village.
