Diakon Looks to the Future After Finalizing Senior Living Agreement
Diakon Lutheran Social Ministry (Monday July 1, 2024)
Diakon would like to share that the agreement has been finalized to combine its senior living operations with Lutheran Senior Services (LSS), a mission-driven, nonprofit network that specializes in housing, care and supportive services for older adults. The transaction had to go through rigorous regulatory approvals, with the closing occurring on June 30.
“This was a strategic decision made by both of our organizations,” said Scott Habecker, Diakon President and Chief Executive Officer. “It helps create a larger senior living business with an even greater ability to serve residents and provide workforce opportunities in the future while also allowing Diakon to focus our resources on the growth of our affordable housing portfolio and children and family services.”
As Diakon embarks on this new chapter, the commitment to excellence remains unwavering. Diakon expects to continue investing heavily in its child and family services and expanding its existing portfolio of affordable housing. Diakon will also continue to offer services to seniors through various Diakon Community Services programs such as senior centers, health and community wellness activities, Meals on Wheels and more.
This strategic decision is anticipated to drive significant growth and innovation to Diakon’s services, including:
- With increased resources, existing programs will be expanded, and new initiatives designed to meet the diverse needs of children and families will be introduced.
- The reallocation of funds will allow Diakon to increase the availability of services, ensuring that more children, youth, families and seniors in the community have access to the support and services they need.
- The transaction allows Diakon to invest in new tactics and capabilities, driving innovation in the ways it serves its communities.
