Susan Long

Susan Long is Executive Director of Diakon Community Services, which a range of community-based services in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania—Senior Community Centers, Meals on Wheels, Health & Wellness, PA MEDI, Diakon Living & Learning After 50 and Diakon Volunteers Serving Seniors, which operates primarily in Berks and Schuylkill counties—and Pike, Columbia/Montour, Luzerne and Wyoming Counties, Pennsylvania, where Diakon Community Services has contracted by the county Office on Aging to manage the PA MEDI insurance-counseling program. And funded by a grant from AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP, Diakon manages the RSVP in Columbia/Montour, Berks/Wayne/Pike, Clinton/Lycoming/Union/Snyder/Northumberland Counties.

Ms. Long joined the organization in 2002 and held a variety of positions with Diakon Community Services, most notably with the Living & Learning After 50 program, having grown the program from receiving a grant in 2007 to serving thousands of Schuylkill County Seniors, providing courses, classes, events, trips and workshops designed exclusively for the active older adults in Schuylkill County. The program’s most popular event is the Diakon’s Living & Learning Senior Expo held annually; bringing hundreds of older adults together to enjoy entertainment, receive health screenings promoting active, healthy lifestyles; visit exhibitor booths for information focusing on the needs, trends and desires of people ages 50 and above. 

Ms. Long served on various committees and partners with Schuylkill Visitor’s Bureau, Schuylkill County Council for the Arts, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Schuylkill County Parks and Recreation, Community Volunteers in Action, RSVP, Schuylkill County Vision, and many area churches and businesses.
