The Wilderness Greenhouse & Native Plant Nursery

Spring 2019 season is here! Mark your calendars ...

Flats were seeded in December and some of our new ‘plant babies’ are already making an appearance. Plugs begin arriving in early March and our students and volunteers are potting them to grow for our upcoming spring and summer sales, listed below. In addition, we are offering our online inventory in a new format (link opens a new browser window).

The Diakon Wilderness Greenhouse & Native Plant Nursery is a unique greenhouse that not only provides regional residents with perrennials native to Pennsylvania, but also serves as a vocational training site for at-risk youths—and helps to fund Diakon Youth Services programs.

The greenhouse typically offers more than 150 species of flowering plants, ferns, grasses, shrubs and trees. The greenhouse is a teaching nursery, offering students the opportunity to learn valuable skills, gain workplace experience, and deepen their understanding of the relationships in the world around them.
